How to Submit a Manuscript for Review

1. Manuscripts should be word processed and formatted on 8 1/2” x 11” paper, double-spaced, with all tables, music examples, photographs, and art work submitted as the author intends them to be printed. Please utilize Microsoft Word and be certain that the file has a .doc or .docx suffix. Regarding citations, please use endnotes rather than footnotes. Or, you may also elect to use an Author-Date citation method in accordance with Turabian or APA. Use Times New Roman font, 12 point size for the text.

2. Style and format of the articles should adhere as closely as possible to current editions of Kate L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, (Chicago: University of Chicago Press). Empirical studies in music education, however, should conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (Washington, D.C: American Psychological Association).

3. The current physical address, phone number, and email address of the author must be included in your email submission to facilitate communication.

4. A brief 200 word or less biographical sketch of the author must be included in a Microsoft Word file separate from the article file. Again, Times New Roman font, 12 point.

5. Generally, we hope to receive manuscripts that are no longer than 38 pages in length, double spaced, inclusive of Endnotes (if used) and Bibliography.

6. Submitting an article indicates that it has not been published previously nor is it currently submitted for publication elsewhere, either in its entirety or in part.

7. The Journal of Band Research is a refereed academic journal maintaining high standards for publication. Each submission receives professional scrutiny, a blind review, by members of our Editorial Review Board. This process generally takes 6 to 8 weeks. The written commentary on each submission is shared with the author or authors by the JBR Editor.

8. Please email your submission, biographical sketch and contact info to the JBR Editor, Dr. John R. Locke at lockej@uncg.edu
